Fairfax County, after delivering a margin of over 60,000 votes for Democrat Tim Kaine in 2005, turned in a 4,000 vote margin for Republican Bob McDonnell in 2009. McDonnell neutralized the huge Democratic advantage in Fairfax for multiple reasons, which are for another post. Here we will merely show where he did it.
Now, allow me to repost a pair of maps detailing elections past. First was the special election for Chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. This map looks quite similar to the one from the Governor's race, with the exception of the Braddock District in the central area of the county (Sharon Bulova, the Democratic nominee in that contest, was from Braddock.)
Second, we have a map showing where Democrats won in 2006 and 2008.
